Residenzschloss (Residential Castle) Darmstadt

In the centre of Darmstadt, the Residenzschloss is located, often also called the City Palace. As the name suggests, the castle formerly served the Landgraves, and from 1806 until 1919, the Grand Dukes of Hesse-Darmstadt as a residential and administrative center.

In today’s castle museum, you learn about the courtly life and the history of the Landgraviate in 22 exhibition rooms. The museum is open to visitors from Friday to Sunday from 10:00 until 17:00 h.

According to the latest plans of the city, the castle will undergo complete refurbishing until the end of 2017. Because the castle is in the centre of Darmstadt the city of science, there are plans to use it as part of the Technical University, as well as part of the central administration.
